Dr Nigel Kellow

Medicolegal Expert

About me

I have been a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia since 1996. I did my undergraduate medical training in London followed by postgraduate training between Oxford, Cambridge, Paris and back in London. I became a Consultant at Barts NHS Trust and have had a busy clinical practice since then in the NHS and private sector.

During my first two years as a teaching hospital consultant I also did an MBA at the London Business School, specialising in finance and strategy. I have co-founded a number of specialist medical groups, amongst which is SedateUK, an educational organisation specialising in the training of non-anaesthetists in safe procedural sedation. Outside clinical medicine I have been, and continue to be, involved with a number of health tech and software ventures.

Clinical Expertise

My main clinical interests are in the following areas: the management of painful spinal and neurological problems; adult regional and general anaesthesia; sedation for medical procedures.

The medical problems I commonly see include: back and neck pain; sciatica; trapped nerves; musculoskeletal limb injuries; peripheral nerve injuries; fracture pain; complex regional pain syndrome; post anaesthetic or sedation injuries; cancer related pain.

Most of my clinical time is spent helping patients avoid spinal surgery and in managing persistent painful problems in spite, and in some cases because, of it. I also see a large number of patients with painful peripheral nerve injuries, many of which have arisen after surgery or trauma.

I perform thousands of interventional spinal, musculoskeletal and neurological procedures every year, ranging from spinal injections, through ablation procedures, to the implantation of spinal cord stimulators.

My clinical practice is in London, divided between Harley Street, the City of London and the Wellington Hospital, the UK’s largest private hospital.

Medicolegal Expertise

My medicolegal expertise reflects my clinical practice so it falls into the following areas:

Painful spinal and neurological problems arising after accident, injury or medical treatment. Injuries arising after general anaesthesia or sedation for medical procedures.

I am often asked to act as a medical expert in high value claims. I act for defendant and claimant in a roughly 50:50 ratio, and as a joint expert. I accept clinical negligence instructions.

Terms & Fees

Please contact my office for fees and terms, but as an indication clients can usually be seen within two weeks of instruction, and a report available in another two weeks or less. Complex cases may require longer but you will never be waiting a long time for a report or for answers to questions.
